Turkmenistan Economic and Trade Investment Forum & CODA Business Delegation Promotion Conference Held in Beijing

On March 13th, the "Turkmenistan Economic and Trade Investment Forum & CODA Business Delegation Promotion Conference," hosted by the China Overseas Development Association (CODA) and the Embassy of Turkmenistan in China, was successfully held in Beijing. H.E. Mr. Parahat Durdyev, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to China, and Mr. He Zhenwei, President of CODA, attended the event and delivered speeches. Centered on the theme "Deepening China-Turkmenistan Economic and Trade Cooperation, Exploring New Opportunities in the Central Asian Market," the conference attracted representatives from enterprises across various sectors including energy, transportation and logistics, agriculture, textiles, and investment and finance.

In his address, Ambassador Durdyev first extended New Year's greetings to his Chinese friends. He noted that 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse in the Chinese zodiac, and in Turkmen culture, the horse has symbolized nobility, strength, and forward momentum since ancient times. This year, Turkmenistan celebrates under the motto "Independent, Permanently Neutral TurkmenistanThe Motherland of the Resolute Horse Soaring High," reflecting the close connection between national traditions and modern development concepts. The Ambassador pointed out that Turkmenistan highly values its comprehensive strategic partnership with China, with fruitful cooperation in trade, energy, transport and logistics, investment, and cultural exchanges. He specifically invited Chinese enterprises to actively participate in the Turkmen-China Investment and Trade Fair and business delegation activities scheduled to take place in Ashgabat from April 26th to May 2nd, to engage in practical B2B meeting with relevant Turkmen ministries and companies, jointly exploring new avenues for cooperation.

President He Zhenwei stated in his speech that Turkmenistan is an important country in the Central Asian region, a shining pearl on the ancient Silk Road. In 2025, the total trade volume between China and the five Central Asian countries exceeded the 100 billion US dollar mark for the first time, with Turkmenistan playing a positive role. Currently, Turkmenistan is at a critical stage of economic and social development. In January this year, the President of Turkmenistan approved the national development plan for various economic sectors for 2026, deploying a series of major projects in key areas such as oil and gas, transportation, communications, and agriculture, particularly the continuous advancement of the TAPI natural gas pipeline project. This provides broad space for China-Turkmenistan economic and trade cooperation. He emphasized that Chinese enterprises in Turkmenistan face three major opportunities: resource endowment, industrialization demand, and a favorable policy environment. They should adopt a long-term perspective, leverage their advantages, operate in compliance with regulations, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.

A representative from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan provided a detailed introduction to Turkmenistan's advantageous industries and key projects, focusing on cooperation opportunities in areas such as oil and gas processing, textile manufacturing, agricultural modernization, and transportation and logistics. He stated that Turkmenistan welcomes Chinese enterprises to participate in its national economic construction and will provide a favorable investment environment and policy support.

During the meeting, CODA elaborated on the itinerary of the business delegation to Turkmenistan planned for April. The delegation will attend the China-Turkmenistan Investment and Trade Fair in Ashgabat and engage in face-to-face discussions with heads of various government departments including the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Transport, and major state-owned enterprises.

In the subsequent B2B networking session, representatives from Chinese and Turkmen enterprises engaged in in-depth exchanges covering fields such as energy cooperation, infrastructure construction, agricultural technology, and textile manufacturing. Enterprise representatives present at the meeting expressed that the event provided them with a deep understanding of Turkmenistan's market environment and investment opportunities, and they are full of anticipation for the upcoming business delegation visit.

This promotion conference represents a significant step in deepening economic and trade cooperation between China and Turkmenistan and promoting the implementation of practical projects, establishing an efficient communication and platform for enterprises from both countries. CODA will continue to play its role as a bridge, serving Chinese enterprises in their high-quality "going global" efforts, propelling China-Turkmenistan economic and trade relations to a new level, and injecting fresh impetus into the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
