President He Zhenwei Attended the 2025 ESG Conference and the High-level Forum on Corporate Green and Low-Carbon Transformation, and Delivered a Keynote Speech

On November 7, 2025, the 2025 ESG Conference and the High-level Forum on Enterprise Green and Low-carbon Transformation was held in Beijing. He Zhenwei, President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade in Overseas Development (CCPIT-OD), delivered a keynote speech, systematically elaborating on the practical pathways of Chinese industries going global amid the global green transformation and sharing CCPIT-OD’s innovative explorations in leveraging ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles to help enterprises overcome bottlenecks and enhance resilience.

He noted that the global green transformation is reshaping the competitive landscape: in 2024, the scale of global green trade reached 3 trillion, and green industry exports demonstrated multi-level layout advantages. Chinese enterprises (e.g., new energy vehicles, which stand out with energy efficiency, intelligent cabins, and a sense of the times) have become global leaders in green transformation. However, challenges such as fragmented international ESG standards, talent shortages, and insufficient economic resilience continue to constrain high-quality overseas expansion.

In response, CCPIT-OD, guided by its core mission of “building bridges, solving problems, and empowering resilience,” has integrated ESG principles into the entire process of serving enterprises’ overseas development. First, it compiled the Guidelines for Overseas ESG Compliance for Enterprises, analyzing regulatory requirements across multiple economies and aligning them with China’s “dual carbon” goals and domestic rules to address compliance challenges. Second, it established an overseas ESG talent pool and launched the public welfare project “Green Overseas Development Lecture Hall” to train professionals in key sectors (e.g., photovoltaics, wind power, energy storage) and popularize basic skills like carbon footprint calculation and community engagement among small and medium-sized manufacturers, making ESG accessible to all enterprises rather than a privilege of large ones. Third, it collaborated with UNESCO and leveraged Hong Kong’s green finance hub to incorporate China’s renewable energy application experience into the global ESG framework, initiated the “Belt and Road ESG Initiative,” and facilitated commitments to ecological restoration in projects such as photovoltaic power stations and urban renewal among Chinese enterprises and partner countries.

He emphasized that enterprises with stronger ESG performance are more resilient to overseas risks and recover faster from crises. “ESG is not a ‘tight constraint’ but a ‘compass’ to help enterprises navigate difficult cycles.” CCPIT-OD will continue to refine its ESG service system, driving more Chinese industries to write a new chapter of high-quality development in the global market with green low-carbon practices and a sense of responsibility.
